Obituary
Horace J "Jerry" Gervais, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022. He was 95 years old and had a life well lived. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years Anita Oestricher Gervais. He had four children: Frank Slipher (Jill), Joe Slipher (Jeaninne), Denise Rau (Brien) and John Gervais (Ashley). He had nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was also survived by extended family, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Jerry was born on September 19, 1926 to the late Marie Lacoste Gervais and Horace J. Gervais in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his siblings John Gervais (Sandra), Trudy Hansen (Pete), and Eddie Gervais (Linda). He graduated from S.J. Peters High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in WWII on the USS Ashland. Jerry worked and retired from the Transportation Business. He was a member of the New Orleans Traffic Club and was an officer for many years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legions and Ludovicum K/C #4663. He was also a longtime volunteer at the WWII Museum where he made many cherished friendships. Special thanks to Veterans At Home Care, to his doctors, nurses and therapist that provided excellent home based care. Also, his caregivers: Angel Turner, Wanda Adams, Vanessa Cockerham-White, and Kenneck Cockerham for providing excellent care over the years. Relatives and friends are invited to a Catholic funeral service on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Benilde Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation is from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, LA.
