Obituary

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, Nathaniel James Lawrence, loving husband, proud and doting father, passed away at the age of 49 at his home in Slidell, Louisiana. Nathaniel, born May 2, 1973 in New Orleans, Louisiana, was a graduate of Francis T. Nichols High School. He was the creator of a champagne-infused iced tea that he named “Pelican on Deck.” However, the role he cherished most was that of husband and father. He leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 16 years, Deandra Sparks Lawrence, and two beautiful children, Nathaniel J. Lawrence and Hannah A. Lawrence.

Despite the health issues that plagued him, Nathaniel was an optimist and devout Christian. He never stopped believing in the word of God even in the midst of his personal struggles. His trust in the Lord is what helped him make it through the darkest of days. He will be remembered most for his unflappable faith, resilience, charisma, infectious laugh, sense of style, and his generosity. He believed in treating everyone with respect and made a friend everywhere he went. His departure has impacted so many, from the children who know him as Hannah’s ever-present dad, to his family, friends, and all of the acquaintances he’s made along the way.

Also left to cherish his memory are his parents, Theron and Paulette Sorina; his sister, Keyasha M. Tillis (Toney); his godmother, Ursula Troop; aunts, nieces, nephews, and a myriad of family and friends. Nathaniel is preceded in death most recently by his sister, Dawn M. Lawrence.

Many thanks to the Ochsner Pulmonary Hypertension care team, ICU & TSU staff, Compassus Hospice, our dearest friends, and our CG Tennis family for all their support.
