uneral services for Mary Kathryn Harrington Kurzweg, 81, of Metairie, Louisiana will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held at the church at 12:00 PM, followed by a private family burial at St. Joseph Abbey in Benedict, Louisiana.

Mary Kay was a graduate of Bolton High School and Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. Her professional career included teaching at LSU Nursing School and Delgado Community College. Mary Kay spent a decade working with people in government assistance programs designed to facilitate participants in entering and remaining in the workforce. She was a formidable public speaker and published author who contributed to a number of books and programs dealing with effective communication and leadership skills. Her work in this area culminated with a trip to the White House where she was honored by President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush.

Mary Kay is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, Victor Jerome (Jerry) Kurzweg, III, along with Darryl (Katina) Tschirn, Jr., Kathryn (Trey) Tschirn Gibbs, Kathryn (Wilson) Kurzweg Barham, Chris (Rebekah) Kurzweg, and Jay Kurzweg. Affectionately known as “Sugar” to her grandchildren, she is also survived by Dylan Tschirn, Katelyn Gibs, William, Larkin, Frances, and Margaret Barham, and Claire, Chloe, and Cooper Kurzweg. Other siblings and family members left to cherish her memory are her sister, Ann Harrington Honeycutt, along with brothers and sisters in law which include, Liz Harrington, Susan and Bob Kurzweg, Mary Kay and Tommy Pickral, and her niece and nephew, Rhett Harrington and Mary Kathryn Peltier. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Clara Harrington and her brother, Judge Barrett Harrington.

Mary Kay was a member of numerous clubs and organizations over the years and deeply cherished the time spent amongst friends and community members. She was very much a people person, and never met a stranger. All she needed was to know your name and you were immediately filed into her thoughts and prayers. She also loved to travel and was always ready for her next adventure.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to St. Francis Xavier Church be made in her memory.
