Obituary

Edna R. Fournet died on Mother's Day, May 8th, 2022. Born in 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Edna was the youngest of 11 children and cultivated very early on the pleasure of having a generous fold of siblings who fostered her love of attention. She was predeceased by all of her siblings except one, Irma (Al) who will now have the task of being the last to document the narrative of this beautiful and enigmatic family.
Edna was predeceased by her husband, John J. Fournet, Sr. (1931- 1992) whom she was destined to marry, if by nothing else than the sheer persistence, will power and love he exhibited in courting her. They had three children, Cheryl (Daryl), Denise and John (Deborah) all of whom were deemed to be the joy and loves of their lives, in part because they staunchly refused to show favoritism. She had the absolute pleasure of participating in the lives of her five grandchildren, Kristin, Michelle, Johnny, Paul and Amanda, each one of whom, in a turn of events, she professed to be her favorite. Edna was also predeceased by her second husband, John Aubrey Landry (1923-2000) who was deemed by the family to be the kindest and gentlest of souls and welcomed with open arms.
Edna had numerous passions and interests throughout her life and while her early adult life was characterized more by chiffon dresses, dances, travel and an innate sense of celebrating New Orleans style, her later adult life found her caring for her 20 acres of land from atop a tractor and spending evenings on her porch watching fireflies and listening to a symphony of frogs and crickets.
Edna had a tendency to live life with a very large footprint and was often seen by others as feisty, generous and a person to contend with all rolled into one. If she had a mantra it was beauty over function and her home and lifestyle reflected this, often to the chagrin of those trying to care for her in her later years. She was happiest when she was doing a project and insisted on doing them even into her 90's, earning her the nickname of "Mulie." When she exited this world on Mother's Day, the world became a quieter and less interesting place to be. We will miss her love and ferocity with all our hearts.
