Samuel John Goodine was born June 23, 1984 and died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He is survived by his parents, David and Elizabeth Goodine, his grandmother, Esther Bennett, his brothers, Jacob (Christy Jo) Goodine and Adam (Leah) Goodine, his sister, Rachel (Michael) Shard, his eight nephews and nieces, as well as his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Samuel attended Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia where he made lifelong friends. After high school, he served in the United States Marine Corps and later graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a degree in Spanish. He was a lover of music, languages, poetry and of a God who loves all people. He was especially passionate about flamenco guitar which he studied in Spain and played for years. Never seen without either his guitar or a book in his hand, he continued to study Spanish and also taught himself a number of other languages. "Uncle Sam" was fond of giving what some might consider strange gifts, such as Spanish dictionaries, to his nieces and nephews. He had a kind and gentle spirit and will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him. In light of COVID a private ceremony will be held on Tuesday at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of St Tammany. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Please sign the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home online Guest Book at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
