Obituary
Brenda Carr Reeves, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Covington, LA on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Born in Morehead, KY on January 22, 1945, she attended the Breck School and Morehead State University until, on a whim, she went to a job fair in Cincinnati while visiting her aunt, and was recruited by Delta Airlines to be a flight attendant. In the 1960s being a “stewardess” was a very competitive and glamorous profession, and her outgoing personality and stunning beauty made her a perfect fit for the job. Based in New Orleans in 1966, she met her soon-to-be husband on a blind date at an uptown restaurant off St. Charles and Napoleon. They were instantly smitten with each other and were inseparable from that point on, except, of course, during duck season or when she was flying. They started their family and lived right down the street from where they first met, and then moved over to the Westbank until 1980, when they permanently relocated to the Northshore.
Brenda took great pleasure in taking care of her family and her home. Her husband and children were always her first priority. She was very involved in her daughters’ schools, serving on the PTA, chaperoning countless field trips and school dances, manning the infirmary at the high school, and so much more. She felt a deep sense of pride when both of her girls were accepted into Vanderbilt University, and she was always their biggest supporter and cheerleader. She also enjoyed cooking everyone’s favorite meals, volunteering at the church and, later in life, helping raise her beloved grandchildren. She amassed an enormous number of friends over the years, and no one was ever a stranger. She loved entertaining and hosting bridal and baby showers, concerts, and even weddings at her home. She also loved music (especially B.J. Thomas and Gino Vannelli, both of whom she was thrilled to have had the chance to meet in person), dancing, making people laugh, decorating her ever-evolving “Martini Room,” her Ya Ya friends, and her weekly Hand & Foot “BB” card group. When asked to describe Brenda, her best friends responded with: loving, funny, giving, strong, joyous, caring, fun, kind, entertaining, generous, beautiful inside and out, and “The Queen Bee.” She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of calling her friend.
Brenda is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Charles E. Reeves, Sr., her daughters Kylan Bodin Knoll of Brentwood, TN and Kristen (Kristy) Reeves of Nashville, TN, her stepdaughter Carla Reeves and stepson Charles E. (Ched) Reeves, Jr., both of Covington, her grandchildren Blake Bodin of Denham Springs, LA, Brennan Bodin of New York, NY, Brooks Bodin of Nashville, TN, Briley Bodin of Nashville, TN, Braden Bodin of Brentwood, TN, Peyton Reeves of Baton Rouge, LA, and one great grandchild, Grey Elise Reeves of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by her brother Roy Patrick (Pat) Carr of Covington, LA and her sister Cynthia (Cindy) Carr Jones of Ojai, CA, as well as her nephews Dylan Carr of Covington, LA and Connor Jones of Ojai, CA. She is preceded in death by her brother Larry Michael (Mickey) Carr and her parents, Jewell and Walter Carr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am until the Methodist service at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Brenda would have loved for you to make a donation in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), one of her favorite charities
