Obituary for Lynn Schminke Marcel
Lynn Schminke Marcel, age 71 years, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at her home. She was born in New Orleans, LA; she was raised and lived in Metairie and Kenner. She moved to Covington in 2017 to be closer to her family. She was affectionately known as Mim. She fought the battle against invasive metastatic breast cancer, but ultimately, lost the war.

Predeceased by her parents, George F. Schminke, III and Elodie C. Schminke; her sister Cathryn A. Bailey. Survived by Brian Marcel, her husband of 49 years, 11 months, and 20 days; beloved son, Matthew Marcel (Kimberly); her grandchildren, Jacob and Juliana Marcel; her sister, Barbara S. Smith (Ron), and her brother, George F. Schminke (Patti); numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

She graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Medical Technology in 1974. She worked at East Jefferson Hospital as a medical technologist for 34 years, retiring in 2015.

Lynn was a prolific quilter and loved to sew. She used her sewing skills to make baby blankets for the Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center. Lynn made numerous baby outfits, dresses, wraps, pillows, and coffin linings for indigent babies. She was incredible in the kitchen: she could cook anything and never met a recipe she couldn’t change and make perfect. Her version of Aunt Gertrude’s pralines was legendary. She had a green thumb and loved to drive the riding lawnmower. She read the Times Picayune daily and worked the crossword puzzles with ease.

She was very engaged in her Catholic faith. Lynn read the Bible, loved to pray, and was a committed adorer in the St. Peter Adoration Chapel. She was a member of the St. Peter Altar Society. At Divine Mercy Parish in Kenner, she was awarded the Saint Louis Medallion for outstanding service to the church in 2016.

She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her, as she made such a positive impact on anyone she met.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the care provided by Dr Rabia Cattie and staff of Ochsner Medical Center/St. Tammany Cancer Center and Hospice of St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
