Obituary

Keith Alan Barnes, most recently of Robert, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Born in New Orleans on May 15, 1956, despite time living away, Keith considered himself a lifelong Louisianian. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ruth Steinau Barnes and Gerald F “Jerry” Barnes of River Ridge.
Keith is survived by his loving wife Deborra, sons David (Sandy) Barnes and Daniel (Jessica) Barnes; grandchildren Andrew, Mason, Evan, Asher, and Evangeline; sister Shay Barnes Chatfield (Charlie); stepchildren Jennifer Lovecchio, Dean Clinard, and Jean-Paul Clinard; He is also survived by many step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Keith attended Shaw and Bonnebel High Schools. Keith was a devoted father during his sons’ youth. As a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, he enjoyed camping with David and guided him to success in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Keith donated his time and musical talents as a cantor at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, singing and expertly playing guitar. His love of music continues through each generation of Keith’s family. Keith was a loving and loyal husband to his wife Deborra. In later years, Keith and Debby spent time together and especially enjoyed riding their motorcycle with friends with wind on their faces.
Keith was proud of his more than 40 years working and volunteering as a HAM radio operator with government entities such as law enforcement agencies, the US Coast Guard, and the American Red Cross. His time was spent in life-saving missions during emergencies, including hurricanes, natural disasters, and other emergencies. During more peaceful times, he coordinated locally to help build the necessary infrastructure utilized during states of emergency. Keith was a champion for HAM radio’s ability to save lives, both in the work he achieved and the message he emphatically carried.
Keith’s family and friends are grateful for their memories and are assured that he is now with his Heavenly Father but wish for more time. Keith will be dearly missed by all.
