Obituary for William Freeman McGlothlin Jr.
William Freeman McGlothlin, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the age of 73. Beloved son of the late Amy Cecilia Frederick McGlothlin and William Freeman McGlothlin. Loving brother of Anna Kathleen McGlothlin Welch and Frank McGlothlin.
Also survived by nephews Frank M. McGlothlin, Patrick Michael Welch and Ephraim J. Kivett as well as niece Amy Welch Olson.
Freeman was a lifelong resident of Covington. Freeman attended St. Paul’s College as it was called then and is now St. Paul’s High School. He was a part of the yearbook there, beginning his love of photography which he carried with him the remainder of his life, receiving awards for his submissions to magazines and galleries.
After high school Freeman decided to become a Christian Brother and was in Lafayette for that duration. He then went to Santa Fe and attended St. Michael’s College in New Mexico. He fell in love with the area and visited there often, hiking in both Taos and Pecos. He was a counselor at Camp La Salle Summer Camp at Pecos for years. After college Freeman spent time as a math teacher at De La Salle in New Orleans for several years and loved teaching.
Even though Freeman ended as a Christian Brother, he continued his connections with the brotherhood, and enjoyed attending vespers every day as it was one of his favorite places to be.
He loved nature, flowers, duck hunting and his daily walks down to the river. He was kind and thoughtful and will be missed by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Paul School Our Lady of Peace Chapel, 917 Jahncke Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:00AM. After the services there will be an offsite gathering for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Freeman to be made to: Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College River Rd, St Benedict, LA 70457.
