Obituary

illiam Chester Verret passed away on the morning of Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the age of 78 in Slidell, Louisiana. Bill is the beloved husband of Julia Samrow Verret for more than 32 years. Bill is the loving father of William Peter Verret (husband of Ann), Jason Lucien Verret (husband of Stacy), and Melissa Cecelia Verret. He is also known to Julia's children, Wendy Kendall and Lance Walls (husband of Tiffany) as Pops. Bill is the treasured brother of Roy Verret (husband of Sharon). Bill was born on March 17, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Roy Richard Verret and Mattie Elizabeth Stockstill Verret, while his father was serving in the military. When the family later settled back home, he attended schools in St. Bernard Parish graduating from Chalmette High School. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) as a Ragan' Cajun, graduating in 1965. Those years laid the foundation for his career path in Industrial Technology. He was a retired employee of Kaiser Aluminum and stayed on with Rain Carbon Inc (CII), retiring in November 2001. Bill continued his career as the Chief Engineer at the Pontchartrain Hotel in New Orleans for several years before deciding that he was ready for full retirement. Bill and Julia married in 1989 and later decided to venture to the Northshore, settling in the Oak Harbor area in 2000. Bill found his paradise with fish, ducks, and a waterway right outside his side porch. He always wanted the kids to visit and as the years went on, there was also an abundance of eight loving grandchildren - Joshua, Jase, Zachary, Windsor, and Theresa Verret, Destiny Walls, Christian Kendall, and Hannah K. Ingram (wife of Hunter) - all who love him as "PawPaw" and two adorable great-grandsons, Gauge and Daxton Ingram, who know him as "Pop Pops". Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him for his kindness and sincerity. Bill is also survived by his nephews, cousins, his godchildren, and many others known as family and friends. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Carolyn Treadway. Bill was also blessed with a wonderful relationship with his stepmother, the late Nettie S. Verret who was married to his dad for 45 years and the late Peter Deogracias, who was married to his mom, as well as with his many aunts, uncles, friends, and other family members now deceased. The family would like to thank Anderson Memory Care and the compassionate caregivers for their ongoing assistance to Bill and his family during his time there as well as Hospice Specialists of Louisiana for their caring staff. Dr. David Tran and his nurse, Cindy, were there to provide medical care during this past month.
