Obituary

On June 28, 2022, Susan Marie Falgout Trahan of Baton Rouge, after 60 short years, passed from this earthly life to a new one that is free of pain or illness. Susan was born in Thibodaux and was well loved by her French-Italian family. When she was young, the family moved to the Midwest, but she returned to Louisiana and used her exquisite gifts as a licensed florist. She found her beloved husband among the flowers and they were married for 33 years. She collected cats and people as friends, many lifelong. Susan was active in cat rescue groups and shared her home with cat lovers and furry friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her father Charles M. Falgout; maternal grandparents Mary Greco and Edwin H. Chiasson and paternal grandparents Hazel Stanga and Nolan P. Falgout. She is survived by her husband Rodney P. Trahan of Baton Rouge, LA; son Kevin Forrest (Sunny) and granddaughters Charlotte, Michelle, Megan, and Willow Estelle of Prairie Grove, AR; mother Stella C. Lasseigne and Alex Lasseigne of Thibodaux, LA; stepmother Bea Falgout of Dallas, TX; sisters Judith F. Rhodes (Daniel) of Baton Rouge, Mary F. Breaud (Randy) of Thibodaux, Aimee Lasseigne New (Adam) of New York, NY, and Debbie Falgout of Charlotte, NC; brothers Charles Falgout (Becky) of League City, TX and Andy Lasseigne of New Orleans, LA; nieces and nephews John Rhodes (Emily Frank) of Baton Rouge, LeeAnna Rhodes Iseral (David) of Hong Kong, Eric LeBlanc of New Orleans, Evan Gaudet, Justin Breaud (Reyne Porche), and Evan Breaud of Thibodaux; and Payton, Ellie, and Skyler Falgout of League City, TX; and great nephews and niece Jules B. Israel, Greyson H. Breaud, Leon D. Rhodes Frank, Justin Porche, and Emma Boudreaux; many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends; ten cats (Jeremiah, Josiah, Lucas, Madelyn, Mimma, Nina, Sandy, Sophie Ann Cottontail, Tirza Marie, Violet), two dogs (Sienna and Dakota), and Josephine the box turtle.

Susan loved big, really BIG! She once said her love for others felt like a waterfall rushing over her. She loved us - her family, friends, and Jesus. She knew one day she would be with Him. She loved beautiful things even those that were broken - stray cats, the wounded, and downtrodden - and worked her love-and-laughter magic to make them better. She could tell a fantastical story and was a skilled artist creating in flowers, jewelry-making, and beading, always giving her gifts generously. She never left home without her exceptional flair. Susie was very cool as were the climate-controlled temperatures in her surroundings. She loved music and boldly sang whether we liked it or not. Our lives are enriched by having Susie as a part of them, and we will never be the same. She lived on her own Susie-terms and time. She left us far too soon and we will miss her.

Susan entrusted her dear friend of over 40 years, Fr. Gregory Boquet, to guide her into the halls of heaven at a celebration of her life at St. Joseph’s Benedictine Abbey in Covington, Louisiana, and following internment in the Abbey Cemetery at the beginning of August. Date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Hope for Animals in Thibodaux (https://www.hopeforanimals.com/info/donate) and Cat Haven in Baton Rouge (https://www.cathaven.org/onlinedonations).
