Obituary
Joseph Charles Sciortino was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He left this world on October 8, 2022, at age 84.

He was born to Joseph and Edna (Mallu) Sciortino on May 30, 1938. A graduate of Holy Cross High School, Joe attended Tulane University on a football scholarship. He completed his undergraduate education at The University of Southern Mississippi, earning a degree in Business Administration. It was in Hattiesburg where he met his beloved wife Merrilyn (Bishop), to whom he was married for 58 years.

Joe is survived by Merrilyn and his four children: Jodi Sciortino, Joseph Sciortino (Suzette), Angela D’Angelo (Donnie) and Jennifer Mouledous (Ryan).

Joe has seven grandchildren: Christopher, Jonathan and Nicholas Sciortino, Casey and Collin D’Angelo and Justin and Kate Mouledous. Joe was blessed to meet his great-grandchildren in his final years. They include Aubrey, Harrison & Anna Sciortino and Harper D’Angelo.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Marie Louise Toth.

Joe’s 44-year career in banking started at Hibernia National Bank and ended in 2008 with Gulf Coast Bank & Trust. During that time, he continued his master-level studies at the University of Louisiana School of Banking.

One of Joe’s great loves was spending time with the family he treasured. He will forever be known as someone who “loved fiercely”.

Another one of Joe’s loves was the water. He was an avid fisherman and will forever be remembered for his boiled crabs, playing Santa on Christmas and having a rum and diet coke in his hand.

Joe placed the highest of value on how he spent his time, the majority of which was spent with family and friends. While he will be terribly missed, his intense passion, incredible work ethic and unconditional love has been passed to his children and grandchildren with an expectation for them to live and love the way he did.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 15 at St. Joseph Abbey 75376 River Rd, St Benedict, LA 70457 Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m., and burial immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery.
