Mary Lou Johnson Plaisance Wilkerson passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Slidell, LA at the age of 86. She was born in New Orleans, LA to her parents, the late Albert Mathews Johnson and Effie Ann Naquin Johnson. She raised her family in Metairie, lived in Kenner for 20 years, and resided in Mandeville for the last 23 years. She attended St. Henry's Elementary, St. Stephen's High School in New Orleans, and she continued her education at UNO in Hospitality and Tourism. She was a devout Catholic. Her family was her first priority in life. She was an active member of the social club, Faith and Fun, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church as well as a member of the Lady Knights of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 9240. She volunteered at Mandeville Elementary, tutoring students in reading. She enjoyed bridge, crossword puzzles, and recreational volleyball. She loved traveling and playing tennis at Sunrise Community Club in Metairie, LA. She was employed at the Spraying Systems and Hypro Company for many years. She retired from her position as an Executive Secretary at East Jefferson Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 24 years, the late Eddie J. Plaisance, Jr. and survived by her loving husband of 23 years Gary Pat Wilkerson. Devoted mother of three children, Richard Plaisance, Denise Neumann, and Michele Saucier (Stephen). Stepmother of Gary Pat Wilkerson, Jr. (Laurie), Shaun Wilkerson (Mary), Shannon Wilkerson (Elena), and the late Kenneth Wilkerson. Sister of Norabelle Lynette (the late William), Janet Love (Sidney), and Jane Patterson (John). Loving grandmother of Victoria Kurzweg, Kevin Neumann, and Hannah Saucier. Step-grandmother of Adrienne Wilkerson, Claire Wilkerson, and Scott Burtle. She is also survived by her loving Shih Tzu, Hazel. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448 on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, Rosary will be said at 11:15 AM, and Mass begins at Noon. Internment will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Covington, LA.
