RICHARD GIACONTIERE OBITUARY
Richard A. Giacontiere, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 71. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of River Ridge, LA. Richard was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kenner. He was devoted to his faith and found peace in saying the Rosary daily. Richard's love of life and his strong will to live helped him to overcome many health obstacles in his lifetime, which inspired everyone who knew him. While he enjoyed taking trips to the mountains, taking walks in the neighborhood, and taking care of his yard, it was being surrounded by his family that brought him the most joy. Richard also proudly served two tours of duty as a Combat Medic Specialist in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received numerous medals, including 2 Bronze Service stars. Beloved husband of 48 years to Janet Bowman Giacontiere. Loving father of Jennifer Pittman (Keith), Melissa Gallagher (Dennis), Gretchen Kimball (Richard) and Richard Giacontiere, Jr. Grandfather of Andrew Pittman, Jonathan Pittman, Elizabeth Pittman, Brendan Gallagher, Christopher Gallagher, Brian Gallagher, Hannah Kimball, Matthew Kimball, Hailey Kimball, Lauren Kimball, Caroline Giacontiere and Claire Giacontiere. Also survived by 2 brothers, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Knight Giacontiere and Benedict Giacontiere and two brothers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 500 Minor St., Kenner on Friday, August 12, 2022. Visitation will be held in church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Mass immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home.
