Obituary for Diedre "Genie" Waite
Diedre Gene “Genie” Waite passed away on September 20, 2022 surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 63. She was born on April 9, 1959 in New Orleans, Louisiana to James and Norman Rutter. She attended Salmen High School in Slidell, Louisiana and later taught health and fitness at Christ Episcopal School in Covington, Louisiana.

The youngest of 6 siblings, Genie loved life and carried a positive attitude that was infectious to those around her. Her greatest joy in life was raising her two sons into strong, kind, and accomplished adults. She had a strong faith in God, which propelled her inner peace regardless of life’s trials and tribulations. She spent countless hours in her yard as an avid gardener, and regularly appreciated the natural beauty of nearby Saint Joseph Abbey. As a health and fitness enthusiast, Genie inspired a love of both physical and mental wellness in both her students at Christ Episcopal and clients at her personal training business, Waite Training. All would comment that “Genie was the healthiest person they knew”. Genie always had a special place in her heart for animals, and enjoyed caring for her many pets over the years. Her family and friends will always remember her for her kind and compassionate spirit, her motivated work ethic, and her bright smile.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers James N. and John H. Rutter. She is survived by her two sons, Taylor Raymond and Landon Alexander Waite and their father, Bradley R. Waite. She is also survived by sisters, Dianne H. Rutter and Rise R. Johns as well as brother, Joel E. Rutter. In addition, Genie is survived by numerous nieces and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon Wadge, Oncology Specialist at Ochsner Cancer Center, the incredible nursing team at St. Tammany Hospital, and St. Tammany Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, September 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, Louisiana followed by a funeral mass. Burial will be at Saint Joseph Abbey at 75376 River Rd., Covington, LA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Genie may be made to the Genie Waite Memorial Scholarship fund at Christ Episcopal School, 80 Christwood Blvd., Covington, LA 70433, Northshore Humane Society at 20384 Harrison Ave., Covington, LA, 70433, or the charity of your choice.
