Joan LeCompte Ledet
~July 11, 1934 - May, 1, 2023~
Joan Harriet LeCompte the only child born to Norman and Germaine LeCompte on July 11, 1934 - of Bourg, Louisiana. She lost her long struggle with Alzheimer's disease and peacefully left this world with her devoted husband by her side. She was a graduate of Terrebonne High School in 1952, of Houma, LA. Joan graduated from Spencer Business School of New Orleans in 1953.
Joan met her high school sweetheart, Charles Ledet, of Houma, LA. - during his sophomore year in 1949 – determined to know this beautiful girl's name – he began using her locker! This is where their enduring love story began. Married July 9, 1955. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Baton Rouge with three of their young children, where Charles finished college, and graduated from LSU in 1960. They would celebrate 68 years of marriage this July.
Charles' career took them to many destinations and Joan was happy to travel, create a loving home and be at his side in every endeavor with their five children. Together they traveled the world from Singapore, Brazil, Russia, Scotland, and all throughout Europe. They lived an eventful life with great adventures and treasured memories. She adored being a mother to her five children. She was a role model for each of them as a devoted Mom and taught them how to be loving parents as well. Her faith sustained her, as she was a devout Catholic. She volunteered as a Catechism teacher when they lived in Wichita, Kansas and she enjoyed helping children learn about their faith. She had many hobbies and pursuits. Joan was an avid reader, loved playing Bridge, and a fierce bowler. She loved playing golf with Charles. She began painting at the age of 50 and became quite proficient. She enjoyed antiquing while living in Scotland, she was an excellent cook and loved having all the family at her table for big holiday meals.
Joan was at each of her children's side during the birth of every grandchild. She and Charles attended most all milestone events in their lives. She cherished each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and showered them with the purest and unconditional form of love.
She is survived by her loving husband Charles A. Ledet, Covington, LA. Additionally, her five children: Rebecca Ledet Martinez (Jack), of New Orleans, LA, grandson Damon Ortiz, Brooke, great grandson Drew; Laurie Ledet Landry (Joey) of Baton Rouge, LA; grandson Thomas Landry (Kat) great grandson Everett, great granddaughter Beatrice, granddaughter Camille (Joe) great grandson Miles; Janelle Ledet Lynch (Tony) of Bethesda, MD grandson Brody, granddaughter Hadleigh, granddaughter Chesney; Charles A. Mom, we will miss you every day – you were loving, protective and an extraordinary mother to us all. Nothing on earth can separate us, not time, not space, not even death and, may "flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
The entire Ledet family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by the kind staff of Passages Hospice of Covington, LA. Additionally, the loyal and caring staff at The Trace, of Covington, LA.
