Obituary

Donald C. Douglas "Pawpaw/Pup" passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30th 2022 at the age of 79 with his loving family by his side. Donald was born on June 26, 1943 in New Orleans to the late Curtis and Marvell Douglas. Don was treasured by his loving wife, Lorraine Schmidt Douglas, with whom he shared 39 blessed years of love and memories. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Bonnet Norris (Don); grandchildren, Blake Adam Norris, Tessa Norris Domingo (John Michael), and Nicole Norris Schultis (Jonathan);great-granddaughter, Meadow Schultis; sister, Judy Ricks (late Rusty) and beloved puppies, Sam and Abbey. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven J. Bonnet and siblings, Linda D. Nunez (late Eddie) and Daniel C. Douglas Jr. (Lynda). Don also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews that he loved dearly. Don graduated from Nicholls High School (class of 1961) and went on to earn a degree in Drafting. He retired from Tuthill Transfer Systems after a long and successful career as a machinist. Don loved the Lord and the Blessed Mother. He was a past chaperone and coach at St. Christopher the Martyr CYO. Don was also deeply involved with the St. Catherine of Siena community. He loved preparing for the St. Joseph Altar (especially the cookies), was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12686, participated in the Tuesday Rosary group and the Adoration Chapel, and even helped the Rosary Altar Society, when needed. He was also a proud member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 12. Known as "Mr. Fix It", Don could often be found working on projects in his tool shop. He loved fishing, feeding the squirrels and birds in his backyard, and cooking something hearty in his kitchen. Don was a gift and blessing to all who knew and loved him and was always only one phone call away. Quick to turn friends into family, his big teddy-bear shoulders matched his big heart towards others. His presence is still felt through his many creative paintings of lighthouses, nature, etc, which fill his home with happiness and warmth. Fly away Pup. We love you!
