Obituary

Mary Cordelia Buckley Buhler entered eternal life on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was born on October 5, 1921, in New Orleans, LA to Johanna and William Buckley. Mary resided in Mandeville, and later Covington, since 1989, previously residing in Metairie for 37 years.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, George L. Buhler, Sr., her daughter Mary Buckley Buhler, her grandchildren Jamie Johanna Basket and Benjamin Buhler, and her brothers William (Alice), Wilmer (Doris), and Bernard (Vera).

She is survived by her children: Bruce (Gayle), Beth, Bryan (Kathleen), George, Jr. (Carmen), William (Lillia), Blair (Laura), Barry (Rachel), Buckley (Pamela). Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren: Lisa LeBlanc Lopez (Luis) and Jessica LeBlanc; Matthew, Maxwell, Marshall, and Mason Buhler; Wesley and Clayton (Claudia) Buhler; Walter and Sophia Buhler; Jared (Cara) and Joel (Shirin) Buhler; Nicholas and Christopher Buhler; Michael (Boonsita) Buhler, Melinda Buhler Reinke (Drake), Christina Buhler Egger (Abram), Amanda Buhler Christensen (David); Joseph and James Buhler. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Rochelle Buhler; Archie and Addie Buhler; Beau Buhler; and Benjamin and Charlotte Christensen. Her survivors also include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. In addition, Mary is survived by her longtime family friends Steve and Serelda Young and Sharon Bryant Buhler.

After graduating from McMain High School and Soule Business College, Mary was a stenographic reporter for the IRS and later a school secretary for Grace King High School and Bunche Middle School in Jefferson Parish. While raising her family in Metairie, Mary was a Cub Scout Den Mother for the troop associated with St. Christopher Parish. After moving to Mandeville, Mary and her husband, George, were active members of the Samaritan Center and Our Lady of the Lake Church.

A private Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Mark Lomax, was held at Grace Funeral Home in Covington, followed by interment at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery, Saint Benedict, LA.
