Obituary
Tommy James Bye Sr. 76, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away at his home on the evening of Sunday, June 11th, 2023. Tommy had a long battle with cancer and is finally at rest.
He was born in Raceland, Louisiana of his predeceased parents, Ruth Matherne and John Bye. He spent his youth in Bridge City, Louisiana along with his sister, Trudy Bye Dufrene. Tommy graduated with the West Jefferson High School Class of 1964, then attended Northwestern State University in 1965. He joined the Navy where he was stationed onboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He worked at Avondale Shipyards, Halter Marine, and then Spiral Metals working in different shipyards in Pascagoula, Avondale and Morgan City. He also ran Spiral Metal of Seattle for many years working on the Alaskan pipeline.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann Ordoyne Bye. Upon remembering their time together, Barbara met Tommy as next-door neighbors, becoming his friend was by choice, but falling in love with him was beyond her control. He was her best friend, her soulmate and her everything. She was truly blessed to have been with him for over 50 years; living, working and travelling the world together. They made great memories that will last forever. She will love him forever and always.
Tommy will be cremated at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, located at 11000 Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where a Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24th, 2023 from 9 to 11 AM with his Memorial Service following at 11 AM. Deacon Rudy of Immaculate Conception Church will preside over the Memorial Service, which will include military funeral honors. If anyone would like to reminisce about his life and experiences, you are most welcome to stand and help us celebrate his life.
His burial will be held at 2 PM on the same day at Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery, located at 75376 River Road in Saint Benedict, Louisiana. A short ceremony will be held by his grave site, with a military honor detail for his service in the US Navy along with a release of balloons.
