Obituary

Patsy Landry DeRouen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 5, 2023, at the age of 75.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses Joseph Landry, and Tessie Rushing Landry. Survived by her
brother Carol Gene Landry and his wife, Tanya Landry of Baton Rouge, her former husband Douglas G.
DeRouen, and their two daughters, Simone DeRouen Buras and her husband Ryan Buras, and Adrienne
DeRouen, three grandchildren, Yvette Celine Buras, Giselle Chloe’ Buras, Jean-Luc DeRouen Buras, and her
beloved dog Gizmo.
Patsy was raised in Baton Rouge and spent many treasured summers with family on Grand Isle. She graduated
college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She was an outstanding teacher, not only in her profession
but in life. She worked for over eleven years as a schoolteacher at both Our Lady of the Lake and Bogalusa
High School where she enjoyed educating her children with each passing generation.
No matter what challenges life brought, she found ways to make the best of them and always kept a smile on
her face. She was hard working and whenever there was a problem, she was right there with a helping hand.
Patsy put her own spin on life, which shined through in everything she did. Always up for an adventure, never
afraid to laugh at herself, and was especially creative. We were lucky enough to enjoy one last family beach
vacation, where she was the first to jump into and last to leave the ocean. Regardless of where she was, she
danced when music was played, she was energetic, uplifting, and will forevermore march to the beat of her
own drum.
Patsy lived her life dedicated to helping her family, giving her daughters and grandchildren all she had. She
taught them how to love unconditionally and wholeheartedly, to never hold a grudge, and most importantly,
to dance like no one is watching. Her compassion was endearing and apparent to all who met her. She was an
extraordinary seamstress, who left her family many heirlooms that will be cherished and passed on for
generations to come.
Thank you, mom, for teaching us how to be the best versions of ourselves. Carpe Diem
