Obituary

Alan Thomas Jacobi departed from this life on July 2, 2021, at eighty-nine years old. Born in Boston on April 5, 1932, to Oscar and Agnes Jacobi, he was raised on Sycamore Street in New Orleans, attending Mater Dolorosa Elementary.

In 1951, Al graduated from Saint Bernard Preparatory School in Alabama, where he played football and served as senior class president. Shortly after high school, during the time of the Korean War, Al entered the US Navy, stationed near Boston, and he eventually joined the New Orleans Plumbers’ and Steamfitters’ Union, Local 60, where he would remain an active member—and sometimes teacher—until 1994. In 1957, he married Betty Jean Berman, and the couple raised three children together in New Orleans East and Slidell. Throughout his life, Al was a faithful Catholic, a loyal friend, a loving husband, and a dedicated father. He loved crawfish boils, Saints games, home improvement, and prayer.

Al was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and he is survived by his three children, Kevin, Elizabeth, and James; his seven grandchildren, Brandy, Jeneé, Michael, Meagan, Thomas, Katherine, and David; and two great-grandchildren, Makenna and Emmett.
