Obituary

Ronald was born June 30, 1949, to Mr. and Mrs. Fermin Babin of Baton Rouge. He attended both Catholic High and Baton Rouge High before receiving his Bachelors of Science in Construction Technology from Louisiana State University and received the Deans Medal for outstanding achievement. He met his loving wife, Karen Doss, and the two were married February 18, 1978 in Lake Jackson, Texas. They loved to travel and were longtime residents of Covington, Louisiana. There he worked in construction for Spartan Construction and Voelkel Construction with longtime friend Norman Voelkel. Later he went into business for himself, creating R. David Constructors and R David Consulting and Estimating. Throughout his career in restoration and commercial construction, he was involved in multiple projects in New Orleans which included the French Quarter, the World’s Fair and the Riverwalk. He retired in 2016. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved cooking, fishing, hunting and all LSU sports. Ronald was very active in Trinity Church of Covington where he was a member of the choir. He was active in missionary work, which included several trips to Belize to help children. He loved his family and large group of friends and colleagues. Ron never met a stranger and was always there to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Doss Babin; daughter and son-in-law, Noelle Babin Grier and Kevin Grier; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Babin Sibley and Joey Sibley; daughter, Jennifer G Waltney; 4 grandchildren, Austin Hayes Wilson and Gia Lou Grier, Jason Lee Sibley, Grace Holmes and his sister, Sharon Babin Oncale and many other devoted family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fermin Babin and Frances Babin; brother, James Lee Babin; sister, Gayle Babin Cowart; brother-in-law, Terry Oncale; cousin, Randy Zeringue and godson, Kendal Mark Oncale. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Friday, February 24, 2023, 9:30 am until Mass begins at 11:00 am. Graveside services will be held privately at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery in Covington, Louisiana.
