Obituary
Mollie L. Badeaux, 93, passed away at her home in Covington on Thursday, March 30, 2023. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Reginald T. Badeaux Jr, to whom she was married for 56 years, and her son Jeffery G. Badeaux. She is survived by her sister Velma (George) LaBanca Fabian, her first-cousin Jean Ann (James) Scariano Brousse, and seven children: Leslie B. (Henk) van Duyvendijk, Reginald (Marie) T. Badeaux III, Gregory B. Badeaux, Richard (Ellen) C. Badeaux, Steven (Cindy) B. Badeaux, Timothy (Siobhan) E. Badeaux and Daniel (Kim) J. Badeaux, eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Mollie was a proud native of New Orleans' Ninth Ward and graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School. Afterwards, she attended Loyola University in New Orleans, whereby great fortune she met the love of her life and future husband, Reggie, in Spanish class. Although Mollie was instantly smitten by Reggie's handsomeness and charming nature, he was a tad slow in figuring out how to land a date with her. A very popular student at Loyola (she was twice voted prettiest co-ed.), Mollie's date card was full every weekend. She reports that after meeting Reggie, she would hold off accepting dates until the Wednesday before the weekend, hoping he would call. Although Reggie would call, usually on Thursday, Mollie gently explained to him that he would need to call much earlier to be included in her social calendar for the weekend. Eventually, Reggie caught on, and his and Mollie's eight children are so glad he did. Mollie earned a B.S in Biology in 1950 at Loyola and taught science at St. Joseph Academy for several years before beginning her own school for eight children. She taught them how to read, how to share and how to have fun playing together. She always gave her children many lovely gifts over the years; but it wasn't until they had children of their own did they realize that she already had given them the greatest gift of all; the gift of unconditional love. Mollie was a parishioner of St. Anselm Catholic Church and enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her friends at Tchefuncta Country Club. Mollie enjoyed traveling the world with Reggie and loved to socialize with their many friends on both sides of the lake. She was also the family chef who shared her love of cooking with her children. A common housewarming gift from Mollie was a good cooking pot, a wooden spoon, and a copy of Leon Soniat's "La Bouche Creole," filled with classic New Orleans recipes. Mollie was a generous and loving wife and mother; and she will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her. A private funeral service was held at St. Paul's School Chapel on Friday, April 14, followed by interment at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery alongside her beloved Reggie. E. J. Fielding Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please sign the online guestbook at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
